The development of high speed internet in this country has been none existent for that past few years and we pay heavy prices for ADSL that has low bandwidth caps and fairly slow speeds. Here in South Africa we apparently pay 50 times as much for ‘high speed’ internet than America does, and we don’t get half the download speeds they receive.
However, great news is here with regards to development of high speed internet in South Africa. Due to the 2010 World Cup the development of high speed internet has begun and by the first quarter of 2010 it should be available at a fraction of the cost we pay today. Uncapped 3 – 10MBps broadband will apparently be available at a cost of R300.00 a month. I believe that this is a huge step in the development of the country and will open up so many doors for South Africans in the online world. I wait in anticipation to see the successes that follow this development and hopefully will be one of them.

I have heard this news recently. I definitely am looking forward the day when we have high speed broadband in this country!

If this comes to pass, it will completely change South Africa. I would love to be able to host servers within the country without worrying about insane bandwidth fees!

It has to! 2010 World Cup will need this kind of service for it to run properly! I am counting down the days.

I have heard the opposite to all of this. I heard that the international broadcasters would get most of our bandwidth and that our connections out of SA would be terrible. Not sure how true it is - hopefully not

I hope that isn’t true because it would be a serious waste! I doubt very much that that would be the case… My fingers are crossed!
