Tune for Tuesday – What a Day

I heard this song playing at the end of a CSI Miami episode I watched on TV this evening… It’s quite a chilled song but my ears took a liking to it! Take a listen and maybe your ears will jump to the beat aswell!

My top wildlife photo!

Just over a month ago I was lucky enough to go to this really cool safari lodge in the small town of Tarkastad in the Eastern Cape. Whilst I was there I took some really awesome photographs, but out of all of them, the photo below is by far my favourite! I’m actually going to get it printed on a large stretched canvas!

That was actually the first time I had ever seen a white lion before… and I can tell you they are so incredible! You don’t actually realise how enormous they really are, until you see them close up! Damn I love living in Africa!

Some shots from two weeks back!

Here are some photos I took about two weeks ago, and was the day before I started heading back to Stellenbosch! I took these in Sedgefield; which if you don’t know; is about 20 to 25 minutes drive from Knysna…

My 2010 World Cup Experience!

15days till kick off… I can clearly remember standing in the queue at the McDonalds fast food restaurant in Stellenbosch, looking up at that glowing digital countdown display. As I waited for my meal to arrive, the seconds were ticking down one by one… getting closer and closer to the big day.
This is it! The time has come. We had waited for over 100 years for this prestigious event to kick off on African soil and what an incredible start it was for all us Africans, especially when Tshabalala scored the opening goal against Mexico on the 11 June 2010! Although the final score ended up as a 1 – 1 draw, it was a day of celebration for all us South Africans! Everyone was up in the air, Vuvuzelas blasting from all corners of the continent, high fives and big smiles all round! The waiting was over and here it was, right before our eyes. The Fifa World Cup 2010 was here! Ke Nako! It is time!

…I had only managed to book tickets to the 3rd and 4th playoff which was to be played in PE on the 10th of July, but the fan walks and fan parks were simply remarkable. Although watching the games live is a great experience, I found that being part of the fans walking the streets, singing, dancing and blowing the Vuvuzela till your lips were swollen was more fun filled and exciting than I could have ever imagined.

After spending a full week in Cape Town getting involved with all the World Cup festivities, I then headed off on my 3 week trip in the bush. I was convinced to give hunting a shot, pun intended, but after a couple days I decided it wasn’t for me but still went out on the hunting trips to help out with all the other things that go with it. And I can tell you, dragging a 150kg Kudu down the hill side through thick bush is not an easy task. We spent several hours working the meat, cleaning, cutting, spicing then hanging it up for biltong… the great reward at the end!

Now back to civilization we headed where we got back into all the World Cup hype and vibe, even though Bafana Bafana were no longer in the tournament it didn’t stop us from getting into supporting another side. So when we went to watch the Germany vs. Uruguay game in PE I had my face painted in the colours of the German flag which I did kind of regret at 3 o’clock in the morning when I had to try and get all that paint off… I would have much rather preferred to go straight to sleep.

On the day of the final I was exhausted, and ended up watching the game at home. The closing ceremony was mind blowing and it gave me serious shivers down my spine… so much so that it brought a tear to my eye. We had done it! We had shown the world what an incredible country we are and that we can achieve anything, even when so many people thought we could never pull it off. It was a moment where we all should have been proud to be African!
And I can honestly say that I am truly PROUD TO BE SOUTH AFRICAN!

It’s all about the L.O.V.E!

Its the Heart, afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance,
Its the dream, afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
Its the one who’s never taken
That never learns to give
Its the soul afraid of dying
That never learns to live
When the night is far too lonely
And the road is far too long
And you feel like love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember, in the winter
Deep beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed, that with suns love
Oneday, becomes a rose

This is one of my favourite photos I took whilst I was out in the bush experiencing hunting for the first time this past June.
What story do you think this photograph tells?

Hunting isn’t my thing!
July 18, 2010 | Category: Ranting | Leave a Comment
Hunting… are you for or against it?!

So many people think of hunting as being so cruel and that how can people kill animals blah blah blah… But then they are fine going to the supermarket to buy steaks and eat biltong! Obviously there are some forms of hunting that I don’t agree with… poaching and those people who just kill for the sake of shooting something; but if you’re going to use the meat then there is nothing wrong with it. Well, that’s my view anyways!
I only recently gave hunting a shot and found out its not my thing… I just don’t enjoy shooting things, but I don’t mind helping out with all the other things that go along with hunting.
We used a lot of the meat to make biltong and droewors! It took many hours cutting, spicing and hanging it all up… but at the end of the day its all so worth it!

Yes… thats me!

I do enjoy taking photos of myself… when you bored in the car, why not do something ‘constructive’!

I made a video… who wouldn’t!
July 15, 2010 | Category: Photography, Ranting | 3 Comments
During my two and half weeks spent in the Karoo I had the opportunity to take a lot of photographs, with some really great results. But whilst I was out there I decided to take some short video clips using my small point and shoot digital camera… the quality isn’t amazing but there is only so much you can do with one of those cameras! No I lie! One of the clips in the video was created using my DSLR….
Nonetheless I created a video compilation using some of the clips, added some awesome music and… well… here it is! Have a watch and enjoy some of the Karoo and South Africa!
